Onslow County: you can still appeal your 2026 revaluation until December 31, 2026

Updated Oct 27, 2026

Deadline: December 31, 2026. Onslow County homeowners can still appeal their 2026 reappraisal value, this year's value, or both, even if the county's earlier appeal deadline has passed.

What happened

Onslow County reappraised every property as of January 1, 2026. The county put the median increase at about 37% since the 2022 revaluation. Two state laws passed in 2026 (S.L. 2026-8 and S.L. 2026-47) then postponed the new values in Onslow and several other counties: 2026 tax bills used the old 2022-based values, and the 2026 reappraisal values take effect for the 2027-28 tax year.

Because of that delay, the county says owners can appeal through December 31, 2026, against this year's value, the 2026 reappraisal value that applies next year, or both. That holds even if the Board of Equalization and Review deadline the county published earlier in 2026 has passed.

If you already appealed

Your appeal isn't cancelled. The county says it will keep reviewing appeals of the 2026 value, and the outcome will apply once the new value takes effect in 2027.

How to appeal now

There's no fee, and you don't need an attorney or an appraisal. You don't have to attend a hearing for your appeal to be considered.

What evidence helps

The county's value is presumed correct, so your job is to show it's more than your home would have sold for on January 1, 2026. See how appeals work in North Carolina for the steps after informal review. They're the same statewide.

What comes next

The county plans to mail Revaluation Notices again in January 2027. For the 2027 tax year, normal appeal deadlines apply: appeals must reach the Board of Equalization and Review before it adjourns in spring 2027.

Questions

What is the Onslow County property tax appeal deadline for 2026?
December 31, 2026. Because the 2026 revaluation was postponed to the 2027 tax year, Onslow County is accepting appeals of this year's value, the 2026 reappraisal value, or both through December 31, 2026, even if the earlier Board of Equalization and Review deadline has passed.
Is my earlier Onslow appeal cancelled?
No. The county says appeals of the 2026 value are not cancelled; it keeps reviewing them, and the outcome applies once the new value takes effect in 2027.
How do I appeal now that the online portal is closed?
Call the Appraisal Division at 910-455-7431 to request an informal review, mail the appeal section of your Revaluation Notice, or visit the Onslow County Tax Office at 234 NW Corridor Blvd, Jacksonville.
When do Onslow's new values show up on tax bills?
The 2026 reappraisal values take effect January 1, 2027, for the 2027-28 tax bills. The county plans to mail notices again in January 2027.
